What are komboskini bracelets and why are ours special?

Komboskini bracelets, also known as prayer ropes, have been used in the Eastern Orthodox Christian tradition for centuries. However, the Komboskini bracelets made in Greece are considered special and unique for several reasons.

1. Traditional craftsmanship: The Komboskini bracelets made in Greece are typically handcrafted using traditional techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation. Skilled artisans take great care in selecting the highest quality materials and hand knotting each individual bracelet, resulting in a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. These bracelets are often crafted by orthodox nuns and monks around Greece to raise money for their various causes.

2. Use of authentic materials: Komboskini bracelets made in Greece are often made using authentic materials such as wool or silk, which are believed to have special properties. For example, wool is thought to symbolize the warmth and comfort of God's love, while silk is believed to represent the purity of the Virgin Mary.

3. Spiritual significance: The Komboskini bracelets made in Greece are imbued with spiritual significance and are considered to be more than just a piece of jewelry. They are seen as a physical reminder of one's faith and devotion to God.

The rope typically comes in one of three lengths, 33 knots, 50 knots, or 100 knots, though there are some in use which are as long as 500 knots. The 33 knots of the shorter rope symbolize the 33 years Christ spent on earth.

It is used in conjunction with the Prayer of the Heart. On each knot is said, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." This prayer is occasionally shortened to, "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me," and other prayers are sometimes said, such as, "God be merciful to me a sinner." Prostrations can also be made with each prayer or after a certain number of prayers.

4. Variety of styles: Komboskini bracelets made in Greece come in a variety of styles, colors, and sizes, allowing the wearer to choose a bracelet that is uniquely suited to their individual tastes and needs.

Overall, Komboskini bracelets made in Greece are prized for their traditional craftsmanship, authentic materials, spiritual significance, and variety of styles, making them a beloved and meaningful symbol of faith for many people around the world.
